About

This is the blog for the BA (hons) Photography and Film programme at Edinburgh Napier University. Both students and staff contribute announcements about current projects, upcoming events, screening, exhibitions and other related opportunities.

About the Programme
BA (Hons) Photography and Film is unique in combining the opportunity to reflect life through a lens in both photography and film. This year we celebrate twenty five years of delivery at Degree level, with graduates going on to achieve success in numerous disciplines throughout the photography, fine art, film and broadcast industries.
In the first year of this practice based programme, students undertake a combined course of study in both photography and filmmaking, allowing for a period of experimentation and the opportunity to identify their specific areas of interest and strengths. It also informs their future choice of specialist roles in either photography or filmmaking.
From the outset, the programme encourages students to think creatively and to develop the skills needed to successfully convey their ideas through their work. We offer an in depth grounding of the technical processes, research skills, production and collaborative practices necessary for a career in the arts and creative industries. Professional communication skills are central to success in every creative occupation and of equal importance is the rigorous critical and contextual underpinning of work at all stages of its creation.
Our students produce a high standard of creative output, be it as a commercial or fine art photographer, film director, writer, cinematographer or any of the myriad of professions within the photography and film industries. And as a programme, we endeavour to support their creative aspirations and professional ambitions in the ever evolving creative world.
